Imagine if it lasted... You'd never have to do proper washing up again!... Just rinse and instantly put away :D

Only thing is, everything would need to be eaten out of a dish to stop it sliding off, and heaven forbid if you're one of those people who can't have their runny foods mixing with their dry foods!

@donald: knowhere near strong enough at the moment for that kind of application.

It is a nano surface so they say. designed around the lotus flower. I imagine someone will eventually make it into a mould and start printing plastics with the nano shape already in it. You could then print fibers with that pattern and weave the fibers to make true 'stayclean' clothes? Its all in the pattern so it wont take long.

Has anyone heard of Ultra Ever Dry, very much a similar product but this one does last. You spray it on in a 2 stage process, I think it's about $150 a litre though.

Here's the website link, watch the movie clip!

same stuff but for the name. its the topcoat that repels and the bottom that offers the surface. It doesn't last past a splashing and you deffo cant touch it. if you touch it its buggered. :?

nasty chemicals as well. Xylene as the bottom coat and Acetone as the top.

They had it on Dara O'Briain's Science Club last night, they had coated Converse trainers in it and were pouring water on them, they also coated a Google Nexus tablet and dropped it in a tank of water. The Ultra Ever Dry, that is. It doesn't come off when you touch it, withstands mild abrasion according to the datasheet http://www.ultraeverdrystore.com/how-to ... ctions.pdf

@bb1boy: i think the problem comes with the application of the term ''mild abrasion'' and the fact that it's a rather broad term when thought about in everyday usage. From all the realworld reviews it looks like soon as you scuff it its gone. Putting it on shoes and fabrics looks cool for the promo video but soon as you use the thing it fails.

Like i say I think it would be sound on things like exterior mounted and housed circuitry as final failsafe or light fittings etc if its both an insulator and heat resistant but in any item that will get even basic wear or exposure to sunlight i feel it needs time to develop. Cool stuff though. shows we are looking to nature for the future rather than away from her.

Yeah? I didn't realise it was that un-hardy (if that's a word) it's a bit of a shame, but I spose they have to start somewhere with it - once perfected it will be awesome!!
