The plot thickens...the reg plate doesn't belong to the car!

Just been speaking to my next door neighbour to see if he know anything about. We'd both been away over Christmas, during which time the car appeared infront of my house. He says it was originally dumped (parked up) on the otherside of our houses for nearly a year, and it belongs to a berk nearby. He's just as fuming as me, because he's trying to sell his house and this thing's a frigging eyesore!

He too has been onto the council, the DVLA and a copper pal. The copper's saying there's probably not a lot we can do, as our car spaces are actually not in front of our own houses and the bastid's actually dumped in the one assigned to his house which is, frankly, miles away !?! I've been here since '91 and no-one other than me has ever parked outside my house. My neighbour says that this guy's always dumping cars around the estate , claiming to be doing them up and then doing feck all to them. We pointed out to the copper that surely it's illegal to have the wrong number displayed on a car anyway! He says he'll do some digging.

Housing management company is next on our complaints hitlist. Not hopeful

Have you got a housing management contract you can look at. See if there is anything in there that can help your complaint?

Unless the car is stolen, it's on private land so this is an entirely civil matter, so the police and council will have no interest or jurisdiction. If the registration is not the correct one for the vehicle, then the police might get interested in prosecuting the owner for that, but ot won't help getting the vehicle moved from where it's currently sat!

The land owner is probably the only person that can assist you here, or your own lawyers if you were appoint some (expensive route).

Very annoying.
From what you've said though, the quickest solution would be to front up the owner, or if you don't fancy that, just move the thing yourself.

As for dumping it in the road though, bear in mind it would actually be you comitting a fly tipping (or similar) offense, rather than the owner of the vehicle though! I guess the owner could maybe even report you to the police as TWOCing his vehicle?

Surely it would only be of concern to them if the car is being driven on the road, and not parked in a privately owned spot?

My Silver lude for example is parked out the front, but has no number plates on it... Is that not as bad an offence?

I'm obviously not trying to defend the guy

Something showing no plates on private land they wouldn't be interested in at all, no - no offence committed. But if a vehicle is reported to them as showing the wrong plates, they might be interested enough to see if it's a stolen vehicle or has been used in crime etc. That's my thinking/what I've seen on some of the police camera crash things.
Mind you, that was with Essex police, who have nothing better to do with their time than chase down easy things that can be solved by looking something up quickly on computer and that might result in a quick fine, rather than anything that involves actual work...
