I had to do one of these a few years ago, and the first thing the guy says i'm not going to preach to you ....
Umm after about an hour the preaching began... and i kid you not most of the class were old or women who got caught doing 34 or thereabouts in a 30 limit, after the preaching they were all cooing along in unison the evils of speed, so they were sold on it, shame they didn't hook me then huh

Put it this way, the only thing you will learn is whether you need glasses or not. I think they're merely designed to inconvenience you. The closest one to me was and hour and a half away, and you're not supposed to drive yourself in case you fail the "eye exam".

No eye test today and everybody drove themselves i think.
i got a yellow card for taking the pi55 as i went there with the attitude that all i have to do is sit here and be bored for 4 hours but its all a bit too seriuos for humour.
the old guy doing the boring bit was going on about an anglia he learned to drive in and i was itching to ask about sundays top gear but already being on a yellow card i was a bit nervous of a red and getting chucked out.
i also learned absolutely nothing of the old guys mate iwan who thinks diesel cars get oil squirted in the bores on over run to keep them lubricated as the engine gets no fuel to lubricate them when coasting down hills

but all is not lost with the day as i did learn that caerphilly council will give you a £70 on the spot fine for smoking in the carpark or dropping your fag end on the pavement or on the road outside the carpark where smokers are banished too.

I must stress that iwan told us that and it wasn't from personal experience.

And for the record I didn't even do the eye exam. They sent them off in groups and I wasn't put in any of them

Sounds to me the guy running your course had no sense of humour probably a died in wool Rover owner...Ted wrote:get a grip nafeNafemanNathan wrote:![]()

At least the guy running the one i went on, had a sense of humour, when i challenged his beliefs and training, he took it in good part, possibly because he was also a biker and he might well have had a quiet understanding wheni mentioned i was a biker and its a fact bikers make better car drivers because the're more away of speed and their suroundings, so speeding is less of an issue especially on a 50-60mph dual carriageway where i got stung, as there arn't any kids waiting to run out and its more of an issue in towns in a 30mph where strangly enough 97% of the class had been caught.

I can still remember the plate of the car used for the eye exam at my driving test centre, all those years ago
(it was always the same car, because the drive it parked down was right next to the centre and happened to be just the right distance)
I wasn't even looking at the car when I told him what the plate was

The guy that did mine was interesting, interested and very well informed. He gave an honest appraisal of the situations where speed can and will give you issues and supported it with well presented media..
I went with an open mind, I learned alot and it slowed me down where it counts.
I think its a real shame that none of you have had even close to the positive experience I had. I walked away from it with a new outlook. This is down to the trainer rather than the subject I believe and I am glad I had a good one.
I can still remember some of the lessons taught in that course and it was three years ago.
