Snapped the Timing belt

Post by DaveyBa8 » Sun Jun 11, 2017 9:52 pm

Awh lads bit sickened timing belt snapped, was doing at 2mph over a speed bump and out she went, checked for spark and no spark so thought distributor. Then realised the rotor didn't move. So yea checked belt and it was in 2 pieces. Not a straight snap, looked like it got caught and chewed through.
Anyways I'm abit sickened, car is not at the house either it's at my sisters. Just a pain
I may just chance throwing s belt on it and seeing.

Oh Bollocks!
That's an absolute nightmare for you, so sorry to hear that.
Definitely worth sticking a belt on and seeing what happens, there are several on here that have been through it and come out fine.

that is a bummer mate i feel for you what engine have you got , nothing to lose in putting a belt on just check nothing has give up the ghost causing the belt to fail , mine was caused by water pump
success is the ability to go from one failure to the next without any loss of enthusiasm :D :D

I think that's the slowest speed snapped belt we've had on the forum. At least that puts you in a good light for just trying a belt :)

Was it a branded tensioner? Any photos?

Can't remember the brand of tensioner of my head.
Ok so I stripped it all down, everything is perfect, nothing seized or broken. The belt on the other hand every single tooth is weak or coming detached from the belt, did I get a faulty belt? Blue print belt.

2 random teeth broke off. And maybe a strip of 8 broke off. The random 2 the following teeth are serverly loose but didn't come off. But every single tooth is coming detached?

Anyone ever see this?? It could still be my fault but I'm very careful with this stuff and I don't think it's overly difficult. Just unsure because I keep blaming myself. But it has taken 9 months of driving to fail.

That's an extremely unusual failure if it's just the belt. That kind of thing is normally only caused by something like the water pump seizing, stripping the teeth. Water pump should be obvious if it had seized, but... Both cams rotating OK?
Definitely a genuine blueprint belt, Not a dodgy Chinese copy maybe?
