Wanted, but I don't know what it is.

Post by Dobbs » Fri Oct 19, 2012 2:17 pm

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me what this is and if anyone has one for sale - it's about the size of a coke can and had a black tube (vacuum) attached? It's located in the near side wing and got smashed during my recent accident (not my fault, no, really :x )

Thanks,

Dobbs.

Is that not the vacume canister that switches off the cruise control in the event of a crash? It sits in the passenger wing?

Edit - yup seems to be http://www.lingshondaparts.com/honda_ca ... k_03=23027

Does that not seem a little ironic that it broke as well then? Did or didn't it do it's job in time? ;-)

It's meant to break during a crash to cut the vacume keeping the CC on and the throttle open.

Dobbs - I know Dino has one of these as we took the wings of his car last weekend. I would think he should be able to sort you out. @Dino

Thanks guys for all your input.

It did indeed brake during the crash and would explain why cruise no longer works, but I can't comment on it cutting off cruise in the event of an accident as it was not on at the time.

Bit of an unusual place to fit a safety device - what if I'd have crashed the drivers side???

I'll PM Dino and see if he's still got one - thanks again folks :P

Interesting...

Where abouts in the near side wing? Can't say I've noticed this before on mine???

One question - is it really needed? If I was to seal up the vacuum pipe leading to the 'can' would it affect the cruise in any way (apart from not cutting off in the event of a near-side collision)?

Basically does it act as a vacuum reservoir??
