 It's had the sill welded to get it through the MOT either last night or today, so hoping to have it back tonight. Then pending whether I get it back today or not it's going in for an MOT tomorrow morning or Monday. Either way, it'll be getting the new radiator that turned up today fitted over the weekend, with all new fluids and oils under the bonnet, as well as the replacement driver's door and door shut seal and a good old clean inside and out :D

Then the following weekend it's off to the body guy for a good old pappering and a full respray 8-)

A bit more progress again

Post by NafemanNathan » Sun Mar 10, 2013 9:51 pm

Well I've had the car back from having the sill patched up for the MOT. As it was looking before the MOT tester stuck his massive screw-driver in and opened it up :? ...

Image

And as it's looking now...

Image

He could have slapped a bit of underseal or something on it, but hey ho  My body-guy is going to finish this off properly anyway.

Then my replacement IACV from the States turned up on Friday. Much better condition by the looks of it...

Image

Image

Image

A stealthy black brand new rad turned up at work on Wednesday 8) ...

Image

And a replacement ashtray to replace my knackered one also arrived one day during the week too :) ...

Image

So this weekend's work begins with the bumper off...

Image

Then it's remove the slam-panel to get the rad out...

Image

Then it's notice all the surface rust once the rad's out  ...

Image

So before refitting anything I treated wherever I can fit a toothbrush...

Image

Image

Image

And then I crack on with something else whilst it cures.

So I have one naff looking passenger side fog light...

Image

What it should look like (The Driver's side)...

Image

So I crack it open to see what's going on inside, and  ...

Image

Image

Image

Image

So yeah, I don't think any amount of Hammerite Krust is going to bring that back  ...

But I did salvage this lot in case I can find another with all damaged those bits, but with a good reflector body

Image

So next day, and how good does that look?! :D ...

Image

Image

Image

It kind of worked out well that the cured state of the rust converter is a perfect colour match to the car lol. Obviously I'm supposed to then prime and paint over it, but that can wait until I have time and a proper space to do it in.

And with that done I then fitted the new rad, which just looks way too clean and almost super-imposed in this pic lol...

Image

Image

Then after refilling the system and also having fit the new IACV the day before I fired her up. Sounds great as usual, but then after about 3-5 minutes of running up to temp with the rad cap off, she starts bloody hunting again  So I've just wasted over £60 (inc custom's fees) on a replacement IACV that I didn't need, so I'm now just hoping it's either a vacuum line leak (which in hind-sight I should have checked for first) or I've got a good old air lock in the coolant system, which isn't wanting to come out of it's own accord.

Yet again though, she's going in for an MOT tomorrow :|
