New Extreme Tuning Custom Exhaust Manifold

Post by NafemanNathan » Mon Dec 30, 2013 11:48 pm

Merry Christmas me! :D

It's here! Easily my favourite Prelude part purchase yet 8)

Drago (of Extreme Tuning)'s own design to my requests. 4-1 curly-wurly manifold. 2.75" collector. Anti-Revision camber (in the "1")

These pictures just don't do the quality of this thing justice.. As usual

Now to get this thing ceramic coated :?

I've had one quote so far (from Zircotec). It was for their top race spec coating inside and out, and on both pieces, but it was more than the cost of the manifold on it's own! I'm waiting for a price back from Camcoat, so we'll see where that goes.

What is meant to be the benefit of the curly bits on these styles of manifold btw? What characteristics is it meant to give the power/torque curves?

It's still a little controversial as to whether the design is a winner, but the theory in my head is that it expels the gases a lot quicker. You know if you have a cola bottle and fill it with water to rinse it out? Say the bottle is half full... If you just tip it upside down, it takes ages for the water to glug out right? But if you put the same amount of water in the bottle and give it a quick spin as you invert it, the whirlpool effect makes the water pour out much much faster and much much smoother as well. I believe the curls in the manifold give the gases the same characteristics (Imagine a water park flue ride). And as all the runner's initial curls curl in the same direction as well, so it should make for a nice entwinement of gases at the -1 section.
