it was the butterfly end, thanks phil!

small change of plan, I picked up a part rebuild block this weekend which has had the Kaizenspeed BS delete kit already installed, plus a bigger 95mm F22 crank installed (like the Frankenstein builds, popular in the US) and standard h22 pistons on F22 rods which should take the compression up to 12:1  instead of using the standard crank In the other block and 11:1 ATR pistons

only thing is, this went in a civic build before hand and they didn't do the clearances correct first time so they had instant knock on two of the pistons, but ive been given replacements to swap anyway so that will be an easy fix.

Ooooh... This explains the change of plan on ordering the rings etc from 12tune :D
Where did you find that?

:? Also, what is the pistons have hit there? Wouldn't be the valves, because they're to the sides above the crecent recesses, not towards the middle where those indentations are?

ebay landage. not sure mate what their from, im guessing the previous owner didn't fit a thick enough gasket and maybe they hit the head itself.... :? he also mentioned something was sucked up into the inlet mani when he first drove it, hence the sale of the engine so maybe it was that - I never saw the head he used, the bottom end seem all good though, the bores look nice and smooth & clean

ebay also landed me this lil bargin too

whiteline 24mm ARB - for 5g but because its the rear its 4g compatible 8-) no drop links with it but im pretty sure that's non essential

checked the dipstick Sunday morning and :o well this lack of..... any oil could explain the problems I had on Saturday at the Pod  time to order some more Millers!!

also, made a good start on Sunday night with swapping the valve springs and retainers to the Skunk2 ones
Image
hell of a difference in thickness and spring rate!! getting them off is easy but putting them back on....  FFS they are soooOOOOOO f-ing fiddly those valve spring retainers..... :!:

anyway, got 8/16 done, plus extra time needed lapping the valves back in. hopefully to be finished another night this week.
