Good to hear you have cheered up a bit
Sometimes you get a few problems all at once then can go 2-3 years at MOT time with nothing wrong at all. Seems to be that way with me anyway! Sometimes makes me think that if a couple of things are needing replaced then that is good
Saves a massive bill later on!
Treat yourself to a wee brake upgrade as suggested, wipe the blues away

Re: Josh's BB4
I had cheered up until today when I remembered the ticket runs out on my Golf in March, and it's been stood for ages
That aside, I just started my new job, so for the first time in months I have a free weekend
this means it's time to repair the fleet, priority number 1 being sorting the Prelude. Is there a guide on here for servicing the calipers? I'd run a search but I know how much you guys all love to help

Re: Josh's BB4
Moved the Prelude over to my dad's house last night as I needed my drive back. He's living out in a little village and has a huge drive, so hopefully once the weather picks up we can spend some time at the weekend working on the car. He wants a hand with his Pajero too so should be a chance for some quality father son time lol. Until then the Prelude sleeps
Come on winter, feck off now, nobody likes you!

Re: Josh's BB4
Well, time for an update I guess
The car is now back with me as I have space to work now, so I've no excuse to not be pulling my finger out

To sumarise, to get an MOT it requires a new upper ball joint on the offside front UCA, a new CV boot on the nearside, and a replacement offside rear brake caliper.
So today I set about removing the UCA. Was fairly painless, and having done this on a newer Honda too I was pleased to find that you don't have to remove the shock when doing this job on a 4g Prelude
only problem I had was the ball joint was spinning when I tried removing the nut after breaking the joint apart. I resolved this with a mallet and a jack as you can see in the pic:

Ideally you'd want to use a block of wood or something, but I didn't have any to hand. But the idea is you place the ball joint under load by jacking the LCA whilst using a wedge above the UCA to jam it against the chassis of the car. Once I did this the nut came off easily. I let it all back down, gave the thread a smack with my trusty mallet and the joint separated

Lovely stuff. Then it was just a matter of removing the 2 bolts on the strut tower that hold the UCA in place and it all came away without a fight.
Here's a close up of the ball joint, as you can see it's drokked. There's loads of play in it too.

So now I'll be handing the control arm over to my mate who's a mechanic, as I don't fancy removing the old ball joint and fitting the new one, he can have that job for his lunch break
At any rate it's just been nice to get out in the sun and make some progress on the lude
I'll get her back on the road soon hopefully!

I've wondered about changing these. I think it's meant to be a case of undoing the circlip and then they just knock out of the arm, you push the new one in and re-fit the circlip, isn't it?
Obviously it can't be that simple though, because everyone would do it?!
