Dannys 4th gen prelude bb4

Post by Prelude danny » Thu Sep 17, 2015 4:47 pm

Bought a 4th generation prelude import,
This is my first prelude I've owned and hopefully the only one for many years to come, I've previously owned civic eg's.

I bought this prelude on Wednesday 16th September, was so happy when I saw it, needs work but got it cheap,

Had to pay to get it recovered as had no mot and hasn't run in a while and it was leaking oil after running after 2 mins :o

Heres a pic when on trailer ;)

Got pics off the the sellers nephew

Got it to the garage where work will be done, found out the oil leak is from the crank seal!
Arches will need sorting out at some point as paint is cracking, bought a few parts as it's been stood for years, want it putting in for mot asap but can't till crank seal and timing belt is done.

Parts I've bought are:

Crank seal
Cam belt kit
Ngk spark plugs
Uprated HT Leads
Discs and pads all round
Water pump

Engine oil
Brake fluid
Rad flush
Exhaust wrap
Spoon chip
96 spec teg alloys

Need gearbox oil but when shops look on net it's telling them I need engine oil

Bought some formula one products to bring the paint to former glory and then a product to seal the paint.

That's all I have for now, I'm looking at getting a uprated exhaust manifold and exhaust system, here are pics while at garage

Thanks for looking, will update when parts arrive and on car

I tend to buy cars that need work but for the price I couldn't refuse

im sure you will have it up and running in no time :)
BB4 = win ;)
youve got the dsp speaker system which is a bonus and it looks like a good straight car
getting the paint work right will be the real challenge as the red tends to turn pink under the laquer

Want all parts I bought on car on within next few days :)

Hopefully the products I've bought for the paint will make it bright red and not pink

Not sure, mechanic says it looks like the crank seal, but paid for a cam belt kit and crank seal, so have to go from there

Looks nice and straight and very clean under the bonnet so a pretty decent buy 8-)
WTF is going on with the air intake though? What is that silver thing that looks like it's meant to be a cone air filter, but isn't attached?

Common oil leak areas are the cam seal or distributor seal on that side of the engine, balance shaft seal, or oil cooler o-ring. Crank seal is less common.

 Interesting that it's pre face lift and k-plate, but doesn't have the sex blocker? :?

The rear brakes will need the handbrake pivot pin freeing off, carrier slider pins and pad shims cleaning up/servicing/greasing, more than discs and pads.

As fod gearbox oil, the Honda service manual can be download from a link in the wiki, which gives the specs.
