Health Check

Post by Dino » Sat Jan 12, 2013 5:24 pm

Well ive been having a look at the car today to get her ready for MOT.
Everything seems ok that ive checked so far.
4ws light came on so removed that for the MOT.
Checked fluids, tyres and lights and sorted as required.

Now the big bit. Had a sniff of the coolant in the expansion bottle and could smell oil.
Uh oh... head gasket?
Smelt coolant in rad cap and that was the same.
So did a wet and dry compression test.
Firstly all the spark plugs had oil on the threads. :|

Dry test (psi)
Cylinders. 1: 252, 2: 208, 3:242 & 4:228
Wet test (psi)
Cylinders 1:310, 2:264, 3:310 & 4: 288

So it looks like we have problems. so my next plan is in action

I then went and checked the compression on the ATR and she showed a nice even spread of compression across all cylinders.

So tomorrow ill check suspension, brakes and wheel bearings tomorrow.

If all ok, then in for MOT.

Once thats done, then its old lump out and in with th A7.

Ill then check pistons and cylinder bores of the A8 to see what is what.

Really? Blimey, it's amazing how such good looking cars are right dogs under the MOT testers lamp :-(

What did it fail on?
