Removing carpets?

Post by alinton » Thu Dec 10, 2015 10:42 am

I think I'm going to have to remove the carpet, after the car got flooded last week, as they're saturated and the dehumidifier will take a year I think.

So, any tips? I assume remove seats and centre console?

Thanks

Andy

The biggest issue about getting the carpet out ifls getting it past all the centre console structure. Personally it make a small cut up behind the dash to aid removal as its saves hours. Aldo you cant see it once its back in.

The rest is simples mate.

Yep, front seats out first (4 bolts on each). Then rear seat Base (Feel under the front and find the 2 release clips). Then centre console out (About 5 screws each side, including the ones behind the pop-out panels at the front and unscrew the gear knob). You'll also have to unbolt the seatbelt anchor points and carefully pop off the plastic sill plates. Then like Phil said get right into the passenger footwells and cut the carpet directly behind the centre console, under the heater control/stereo. You should then be able to just pull the carpet out from under the remaining bits of trim no problem.

Thanks chaps. And what about the sound deadening that's under them, does it come out easy?

Sounds deadening. Which one. The mass loaded vinyl will pull out but the tar deadening won't remove easily at all in any way.

The mass loaded vinyl I think. That's the stuff that's holding the water right now.

The tar deadening won't be holding anything though, so not a problem. Rest just lifts out.

Yea, all carpet out now, and it was literally dripping water out.

So they're all suspended over the bath to drip dry!
