A bit late to the party - Exedy stage 2 thick disc clutch kit.

Since there was life left in my Competition Clutch stage 5 kit we reinstalled it. IF this Exedy kit had turned up when it was supposed to  it would have been fitted then. So this will be kept in reserve.

A bit of rake on the suspension isnt a bad thing as long as it compresses under load
newkids old blue 4th gen had a bit of rake- if i remember correctly these were the stiffer more track focused springs that mugen made ;)
you could also fit the big carbon wing to press things down at the back...

good pic of the exedy clutch :)
looks like it has three front brake pads on the friction plate

good luck with the weight/power testing session 8-)

SLS 2015 - Dyno & Team

Post by Merlin » Sun Apr 12, 2015 9:46 pm

The car is all done (well 99% there) the weight is in, had its wheels aligned and been on the dyno & scales.
Image

I had flattened out the roll of lead to go under the passenger seat

Image

And it fitted in there nice

Image

The lifting weights were bolted into the boot of the car along with a cage we made for it. We were rushing so I don't have a pic.

On the scales at power & weight testing the car (plus me) weighed 1319kg, pretty much exactly what I was aiming for. On the dyno however, the dyno (the same dyno I was made to go on mid-season last year) recorded my power lower than it did last time. It gave a figure of 198 whp.

The dyno operator said that there could be a few reasons why it read different. The best thing about it is that it has done me a huge favor. I don't really care what the dyno says as the car still feels as rapid as ever so the "loss" in power is not a major mechanical problem. But lap times will tell.

My ballast estimation was based on the last dyno of 208 whp.

198 whp & 1319 = 150.1 whp/T which is well under the 160 whp/T limit of the class. We car going to remove a chunk of ballast to get in the upper 150's whp/T  So less weight should equal faster lap times.

So am in class E where I wanted to be 8-)

Nice one Allister :)

Do you have to get randomly dyno'd throughout the season at all?

Good pics to 8)

Great merlin! Car looks and sounds really good!
Strange it lost some HP but less weight is good!

How is the distribution per tire?

Nope 8-) One of the reasons for SLS using only one dyno was to get away from competitors being suspicious of other dyno's. This result is non-contestable. The only way I can be petitioned again is if someone thinks I have dumbed the car down for this run and ran a higher power on the day, or am using switchable maps. None of which I am doing, just straight up as it is.

The dyno operator said that the difference in results was even across the whole rev range, not contained to either low down or high rpm. This points to the dyno reading it different. He also said that environmental factors, the fix to my downpipe gasket, the tightness of the straps on the dyno (wheel slip) could all have resulted in the minor whp loss. Also, and im not sure how much this will affect it, the car has barely moved over the last 6 months. Only over the last couple of days has it begun to stretch its legs again.

Decent for a first go 8-) This pic is with me in the car. Take off my 75kg from the drivers side and the fronts are within 10kg of each other, very livable. The rears have a bigger difference, a little more than I would have liked, but since it is on the back I am not too bothered. I am planning suspension work for later in the year. I will better balance it out then. At the moment handling feels good.

Yeah, this is why I thought they might. You could accidentally "loose" some of your ballast, or upgrade anything without them knowing. So the thought of random dyno and weight checks would deter any of that kind of shenanigans.
