ORLY? Interesting... Lisa's has a bit of 5th gear crunch and I definitely can't be added rebuilding it yet! So that's worth trying then? Does it cause any other kind of degradation to the gearbox long term, or not?NafemanNathan wrote:How bad is it mate?
If it's not too bad Amsoil MTF has been known to remedy the crunch on quite a number of occasions. Even if it's quite bad it can make a significant improvement. I've had a reasonable 5th gear crunch on two LSD boxes now. Amsoil MTF cured both![]()
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.

Definitely! It should help preserve what's left.wurlycorner wrote:ORLY? Interesting... Lisa's has a bit of 5th gear crunch and I definitely can't be added rebuilding it yet! Going to try this too,i had it going into 3rd then gave the slave a bleed and that resolved it but 5th has remained crunchie
even after another bleed attempt,God only knows when the tranny fluid was done.
When its warmed up if i let the revs drop off like to 2000 before shifting and ease it in it won't grind.
Defo worth a try now.
So its not all that easy to get over here but have found one company and it says
"Replaces Honda Genuine MTF fluid for manual transaxles and Texaco MTX fluid. Not for use in engines, hypoid rear axles, limited-slip or wet clutch applications"
Limited-slip as in LSD?

Now that's interesting...
Yep, "limited-slip" would mean LSD and you're right, it says not for use in limited-slip applications;
http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/t ... uid-5w-30/
but that's exactly where we've all been using it!

There are different types of LSD though, so perhaps it suits the M2B4 LSD but not the U2Q7?
If you have trouble getting it, I'm coming over to Oz in December, so I'd offer to stick some in my case and bring it over for you, but we're only going to Sydney and I expect it might get them all jumpy at the airport when they scanned the luggage!
EDIT: which reminds me...
Do you know of any Honda or Jap scene meets happening in Sydney in late December?
Would be great to catch up with the scene over there if we can

It is interesting,i can get 2ltrs delivered to the door for $56,doesn't seem too bad.
Drives me crazy that crunching but like everything you just get used to it and try avoid it as much as possible but it's hard when i cruise in that gear mostly(Petrol miser
).
Thanks for the offer haha,i had my dad over visit in September he had a rear strut in his luggage
,customs guy asked "what car is it for?" i think they appreciate the effort some go through with their cars!
Not sure on what would be on but it is peak time for shows and cruises now the school hols are back on and stress free living is on the cards for 2 months,i'm on Prelude Australia and Ozhonda, both good sites, plenty of owners over here but mostly in the bigger cities and not the Goldcoast
,some 2G and heaps of 3G on the road.
You just over for Christmas?

Yep, just 8 days. Would love to be out for longer, but it's on the back of 6 days in the Philippines and my holiday allowance and credit card balance won't allow any longer!!!Greg-SiR wrote:It is interesting,i can get 2ltrs delivered to the door for $56,doesn't seem too bad.
