Assuming they are manually adjustable, that's an advantage under your circumstances, but still follow the advice previously given. I'm still reeling from the shock that mine may not have been adjusted for so long, to date ignorance is bliss. Please let me know how you get on tomorrow, hope she's not too ill.

Just sounds like some bad valve clearances to me.

I have known them to come loose again after adjustment if not properly tighten, and it would only take one loose one to make that kind of noise. I'd check your invoice to see if the garage had checked/adjusted them when they did the service. If they did, get them to check and sort it (hopefully for free),if they didn't then there's no harm in taking it back to them to check/have a listen anyway.

Cheers Nafe!

Valve thingy wasnt part of the agreement:

We did go thru the list of the major service as listed in the service book :

The aim this time was to replace most/all fluids and serviceable items.

We did agreed a year later we would go thru all the checks/lubricate/adjustments according to service book.

Since Luke is book for 3 mornings on 20th.
Might as well get them to do the following:
1. Monitor this vibration in the morning
- did a test recently:
- N rev goes up :-)
- P rev goes up :-)
- D rev drops to 800-900rev and vibrates in repetitive mode

2. Replace PAS fluid (forgot last time)
3. Adjust Valve clearance
4. Anythingelse i missed for a 93k Luke?

I think that service item list you showed is one generic to all Hondas of the era, I imagine that the line regarding diff oil is referring to the 4wd Civic Shuttle.

Item 1 is normal behavior for the engine revs. The revs drop when you go into drive because the engine has gone 'on load' via the torque convertor.

Service C should include everything in Service A and B.. is valve clearances in either of those 2? Typically it used to be something that was recommended to be checked quite regularly on cars (so can believe it could be in the A or B items?).

Notice there was a heliciol repair done on the cambelt tensioner last time. Another possibility is that could have come loose and the belt tension have dropped, causing the top end timing to be out. My money is still on valve clearances though, which is about an hour's labour, no parts (unless they also replace the cam cover seal).

I certainly wouldn't suggest taking the car to a new garage at this stage, use the same place as before.
