High Idle - Not Bouncing (yet) - FALSE ALARM!!

Post by CrunchyAdams82 » Tue Apr 01, 2014 6:53 am

Ok, so just drove into work this morning, & on the way the engine starts idling at 2K revs. :(

Still drives fine & vtec's fine, but has a bit of an overrun when you switch it off. And it sounds like the engine wants to keep running.

So is this just the IACV needs cleaning up, or something else?

It's not bouncing - which is symptomatic of low water or a leaky pump, but I will check the level later on anyway.

Any ideas?

VAC leak somewhere :( Take a can of carb cleaner and spray round the TB inlet mani etc and see if the idle changes. Only do this when the engine is cold unless you want to barbeque the car and possibly yourself :D

Is it doing it when the engine is hot as well? Possible FITV.

JDM H22a, right?

Remind us, have you done any swapping of ecu's and if so, what was it that went in?

Have you still got a CEL on? Checked to see if you have a new code beyond the one you had before?

Yes, JDM H22A. And put a P13 in with Spoon copy chip.

Ran fine for 2 days, then started doing this today.

 I edited after you'd replied... Have you got a CEL on still and have you checked to see if it's giving you a new code beyond the one it was giving you before?

No & no. In fact this mornings journey was the first time the CEL didn't come on since I brought it back home..

if you want to rule out the FITV then get the engine up to temp and remove the intake so you can get to the Throttle Body. Put your finger over the lower hole, if the idles drops the FITV is open when it shouldn't be. If it is open, check coolant level, lines and for air in the system.

As BMCC says, and the upper hole in the TB leads to the IACV so you can check that too.
