Newbie H22a5 project

Post by Lawman41 » Sat Mar 26, 2016 1:33 pm

Hi guys newbie here to the prelude community. Bought a2000 honda prelude 2.2 vti, i think the original engine was the red top 200bhp one but engine has now been replaced and replacment is h22a5 engine which i believe is 185bhp standard.

At the moment ive done the bodywork required and a colour change, and fitted a CAI and straight through stainless steel exhaust de catted.

I need some advice as i want to get my engine up to 240/250bhp. I know its not east but i can source all parts required as there is a big jap motor community where i am.

I've been told to fit ATR intake manifold and exhaust manifold, i think i already have the larger throttle body on my car as it was originally the 200bhp variant.

Is thos the right advice and what else could i do to get power? I've been told after this an ecu and map will get me going.

All advice is appreciated. Note i want to be naturally aspirated and not turbo'd. May go turbo in future.

Many thanks guys.

Forgot to mention i can also get my hands on the cylinder head with cams of an accord type r fairly cheap. Would this be recommended and worth it?

With all these mods would i reach 250bhp?

Power is hard to squeeze out of these engines... a few guys have that kind of output but it seems supercharge is the way fwd.. Goode luck

Your best trying to get the original compression if you want to reach thoses figures. I managed 230 with jdm pistons

As said, you'll be fighting the lower compression pistons. (10:1 in that?)
Really, you want the 11:1 from the A7/A8.
My car has the kind of power you're looking at so my thread my help. @nafemannathan has similar but a 5th gen.

That's pretty big power for an n/a build.
You definitely need an ecu and map to extract anything from mods to an engine in a 5g.

Mine is a healthy completely OEM H22a7 bar the S2000 injectors. I'm running a Type-S intake with K&N filter and a full Mugen exhaust, and the lot is tuned on an AEM ecu. Made 242bhp and 172lbft on a low reading dyno.

Wouldn't the lower compression pistons be better for boosting, such as with a turbo or supercharger? (genuine question)
Also lawman, I've seen somewhere on the selling pages, someone selling some top end components if you are really looking for 250 bhp

Yes. Basic rule is the higher the compression the higher the power.

And yes, lower comp is preferred for reliability when boosting... But I know nothing about that :D
