To clarify - that's In Car Entertainment - not frozen water

Oil pressure gauge reading oddly high

Post by NafemanNathan » Wed Jul 30, 2014 11:40 pm

My oil pressure gauge seems to be reading a steady 145 at idle and cruising (It never goes higher, but does dip below when I pull away).

It's a Race X gauge, but I can't find anything on it, other than an online shop, but that still doesn't tell me what they measure in.

I have noticed that a lot of other oil pressure gauges read from 0-145psi though, so I believe mine is maxing out at 145psi...

... But why is it reading that high? :? ... Dodgy sender unit?

I'm only really noticing it now as I can now see them better since I fitted my new pods. Previously I just assumed there was a decimal place in there that I couldn't see, which would make it 14.5psi, which would be fine.

The car is running absolutely spot on though and the OEM oil light doesn't come on for me to be concerned.

Anyone else had a similar issue?

Cheers Ian :) The one I found was £94, but having seen the prices of the links you gave me I'm inclined to think it'd be the hardwear at fault

Keith's response was it could be the sender, or a fault in the wiring and best to get a specialist to check it out. But at the price they are it'd probably work out cheaper to get a new one  So I think I'll look into get a slightly more reputable brand ;-)

Really? I thought RACE-X was gold standard eBay racing equipment?

Yeah either the gauge has become seriously uncalibrated or the sender unit's faulty I think.

My one idles at just over 30psi and is around 90psi when giving it the beans. 140psi sounds very high! Do you have the correct sensor for it? I was told by the company whom I got my stuff from not to mix and match sensors with different guages.
