Surely there's a counter argument to heavy gear knobs? I know you've got an increased moment of inertia, but surely a lot of changing gear is about the feel of the travel or action of the mechanism: the more feel you have the more you can tell how much or little clutch engagement is needed and, for example, the easier you can feel any resistance if say you're matching the revs more to change gear and using no or little clutch?
If a heavier knob has a higher moment of inertia surely there is less for your hand to do and you lose a little feel too?
I realise we're talking tiny differences here, but then surely this is the case with the extra weight as a counter argument?
Any thoughts? (If that makes any sense

I'd say that's only a counter arguement if you natural gear engagements aren't smooth. Still valid though
Another counter arguement to weighted gearknobs is, on a morning like this morning... They're frikin cold! Mine's not weighted, but it is metal and it wasn't nice to touch today. I hate to think what it's like in the height of summer
(I know, Britain blah blah blah

Shirt shifters generally are renowned for being quite "sexual" and combined with knob of only 70g, although not necessarily much of a threat, will still land them a prison sentence if caughtDonald wrote:I've read tales of the Spoon Duracon knob being only 70g, and that combined with a shirt shifter is meant to also be sexual.

From what you were saying in one of your first posts Merl, about the knob looking small, well if yours is the same size as mine (which I presume it is) then it's definitely noticably smaller than what I'm used too.
So many inuendos
I recon my bronze one in the 3rd gen is about 40mm diameter. I recon it needs to be about 50mm to feel right.

I thought that's why you have a sock in your car, to put over your knob?NafemanNathan wrote:Another counter arguement to weighted gearknobs is, on a morning like this morning... They're frikin cold!
