Need someone local with a 3G Prelude please!

Banter goes here, and doesn't have to be Lude related

Need someone local with a 3G Prelude please!

Post by becca » Sun Jan 12, 2014 9:37 pm

Odd request...

Basically... I want someone to turn up, take their bumpers off, and let me test fit them on the 'deck [just for size no actual mounting]... Am I asking too much? Free cups of tea and maybe some biscuits if you're lucky?

The 'deck is already stripped and have access to a workshop / plenty'o tools where the other half works, where the accord is currently resting!

Anyone have one or know of one around the SG19 area or close enough to be willing to get there?

I'd really really appreciate it! :)

I'm not really close enough I'm afraid, but @91pREluDe may be able to help you..if he's prepared to take the bumpers off his recently bought 3rd?? :?

If the worst comes to the worst, I could probably come up..but not till 25th earliest. ;)

Judging by the top pic in this thread, the front bumper is already off his car ;), which should make the job somewhat easier?

Only trouble I foresee is that the mounting bars for both cars are completely different. Obviously you could remove the bumper bars and retro fit the prelude bumpers to the 'deck bumper bars, but the chances of being able to remove the bumper bars from said bumpers may prove to be a tad more than a bitch ;-)

Speaking from experience the 'deck fixings are a nightmare! They're large enough heads, but they're only cross-heads and all they want to do is round :?

If anyone is willing to travel to you, then I'd advise they try removing their bumper from the bumper bar first

Otherwise, can you get away with just measuring with a fabric tape measure?

Notwithstanding, 91 now has his new white one to drive, as well as his pranged red one still sitting in his drive, count me out I'll be in N.Z. by next Tuesday. Whats wrong with measuring off, anyway, or using measurement chart for both machines to compare

Measurements would be pretty subjective, I would need to measure angles etc to know it'd sit flush enough! That's just too much maths for me

Any kind of mounting is no issue, it's how well the sides of the bumper fit with the wings etc. and how it looks in general, as nobody has ever done it before for me to see! :[

I know that 2G bumpers 100% fit with very minimal modification to the mounting brackets on the car. I don't mind changing any of that, welding is easy, but I have never ever tried plastic welding or remoulding so don't want to have to modify the actual structure of the bumper :[

Given that the 2G and 3G share the BA code how different could the bumpers actually be in dimensions? :/

Well given that some 4Gs are on a BA chassis code...
