wurlycorner wrote:No disrespect to the plate welding onto the bottom mod, but you would probably achieve better increase in stiffness (whilst also less weight, if that bothered you) by putting a few gusset/fillet plates across the existing C shape cross-sections on each arm, than by welding the plate onto the bottom and turning it into a (sort of) box section.
If I've understood you right, that wouldn't really prevent twisting or it flexing upwards though.

That would stiffen it from twisting. Is it suggested they bend upwards? I'd be very surprised at that! :?

Lots to do there Merlin!

they are trying to tie the two arms together twisting of one arm or the other isn't the issue its the whole wishbone they are trying to stop from flexing.
If you want to understand it get hold of a rear wishbone grip the two ends (sounds like a night with ratty and nitin) and twist. fillets will not stop the two arms from from flexing

The beginnings of a cage

Post by Merlin » Thu Apr 03, 2014 9:45 pm

I still don't have the car back but work is happening. The guy who is building it had been in the hospital so work had to stop for a while. I am going up to to see it on Saturday with the aim for it to be finished by Tuesday/Wednesday. The pics I have so far:

That's coming along nicely, is there anyway of you getting the dimensions of the roll cage, I've got a guy that says he can make one but would be easier and quicker if he had some kind of plan

I'll ask him for the dimensions or measure it myself.

:scaredtoss:

Add to your list giving the interior metal a quick going over with rattle can or something ;)

And this sticker for your crash lid. I think a large bonnet one would be unsuitable  plus this one is a little more you.
