But put it this way, if I had been able to finish this in a reasonable time there's no way I'd have been able to afford all these goodies. Sure the brakes are just an add-on, but the engine mods aren't something I'd be constantly upgrading ;-)

Speaking of which, I had a ball part figure back from Shawn Rosko yesterday for the items required to convert the K24 for an H22. It wasn't something he'd priced up individually, so he's not given me an exact figure, but he has guestimated at around the $900-$1000 mark :? He sells the complete kit including machined crank for $1300 before shipping, but I had no idea he could get the brand new cranks for as cheap as $300!!! (as he's informed me). I had imagined the parts I needed would set me back $500 tops, so I instantly thought of a second option.

... Ludey's 100mm stroke BC crank 8) A little more than I had imagined the K24 conversion was going to cost me, but it is specifically for an H22a7/8 (55mm journals), so a lot simpler a solution and also gains me 1mm extra stroke over the K24.

I also had a reply from Performance Unlimited yesterday who are CP and JE piston distributors who gave me a very reasonable price for custom pistons. I want to be able to use as long a rods as possible to keep a decent rod to stroke ratio (Meaning I can rev faster) and using custom pistons means I can stick with the reasonable length H22 Eagle rods I already have. K20 rods work with H22 pistons on the K24 crank, but the rods are only 139mm long, so you sacrfice rpms. H22 rods are 143mm long and are pretty much as long as I can go before I start sacrificing piston oil rings and seals, so with custom pistons I can make the perfect match.

I've also left it with them to find out whether either CP or JE can make pistons compatible with our FRM liners. I'm not holding out much hope and imagine I still might be inclined to go down the sleeved block route, but it'd still be good to know and to pass on.

are you not worried with a stroked block about piston instability at the bottom of the stroke?

No, It's a stroker kit specifically designed for the H22 and even to be run under boost. I'll be running NA (Hence the need to change the pistons) and the rods I'll be using are only a mere 0.1544mm shorter than the ones BC spec.

Do say if you think different though Merc.

its just that stroker kits are invariably a compromise, and when the piston goes further down the bore it can wobble putting more strain on the skirt of the piston and the cylinder wall. Which is one of the reasons I discounted stroking my engine as like you I want fit and forget pretty much and I want fairly oe reliability.
I know wanting that sort of reliability and modding an engine especially one as old as the H22 don't seem to go hand in hand if its done properly a good build will be as good as an oe engine.

Ah yes. That's why I'm undecided on bore size yet, but wanting to go sleeved. Just need to look into sleeves deeply now as it's something I've only considered of recent.
