Sorry I don't really do photos.

Got the engine out of the donor today though.

Just shunting cars around the unit tomorrow though, need to get the green one back at the front so it's easier to work on. Then next weekend get the engine out of that and maybe get the new one in. Going to be using as much as possible from my old engine as the new one is higher mileage and the box isn't great apparently. Will need to sort a new sump and rad too.

Good progress.

Did you have it running and do a compression test on it before removing?

Great work Becca. So glad you're doing this as well. It was always my intention for mine as well :)

No - there was too much missing from it that needs to come from the original engine (fuses, ignition barrel, fuel tank all gone, rad was ruined too) so going to get it in the green one, run it, compression test, if all is well then full service, gaskets, water pump, etc. Trying to keep as much as possible from the original, lower mileage engine though. The lad I bought it off said he drove it from London to Bradford no issues (other than the box felt a bit iffy but I'll be using my original box) but that was 2 years ago or so and it's sat since then.

I don't tend to 'do' engine stuff, other than servicing, so I'm having Bruce help me. I want to try and do most of it myself though and learn for future, just with some helping words  I already have a lot of parts to service it waiting as I bought them a couple of days before the original engine died and never bothered getting rid.

Keeping my fingers crossed it's all ok once it's in and had all the little bits done. It was fairly cheap, less than a third of what breakers were asking for just an engine when it originally died, and that's for the whole car and I can hopefully sell the front end so it won't be a massive loss if it's no good and I'll have learnt something from it.

I've basically bought a donor car FOR my donor car though so I feel a little silly. Can't help what you fall in love with though, eh!

Hope it turns out to be a good'un then, after all that effort.

I hope so too  had to take the risk as I can't find another A20 anywhere - been looking for about 8 months :(

Spareodeck is now at the front of the unit so easier to get to. Shuffled all the cars round today and also got the autobox off the new engine ready to mount the one from my original engine. Probably going to send my old box off for reconditioning before it's all back in though. Just to future-proof everything a bit, it's done under 100k but it's better to do it all now while it's off the road I suppose!

We spent all day shuffling stuff around the barn, too.
 a cat and a penis - looks familiar! ( my cars tend to end up with penises drawn on them as well, whenever Phil visits... and Donald successfully turned one into a cat )

 it's meant to be two dogs, I drew the penis first, then Pete drew the two dogs and I pointed out one of them was now being spunked on

Unsure what to do with the interior in the car now. Most of the back is stripped out including door cards (some of which were damaged on removal as they were never intended to go back in) so I might just paint the back black and keep just front seats, front doorcards and dash and leave the back stripped. Most of my friends refuse to come out in the car with me anyway because I see the throttle as an on/off switch, so rear seats are redundant
