Car cover

Post by nitin_s1 » Wed Aug 01, 2018 10:15 pm

Hi guys,

I need some help choosing a car cover for my Prelude (5G).

There are lots to choose from the internet (eBay/Amazon) but I wanted one in particular which will be good for a car that's had a fresh paint (scratch resistant ?) and also weatherproof as my car will be on the driveway outside..

I have a 'Voyager' fitted 4G cover from http://www.coveryourcar.co.uk/.

Can only speak as I find but its been great. Got it for when my car was at work as it was parked under a tree with no redeeming features (massive acidic bird turds, acidic berries, acidic sap, leaves....)
Used it many many times in pretty much all weathers and no issues. Was about £75 IIRC.

I have a monsoon and stormforce.
One is for the green 3g and lives inside, the other is for the white 4g and lives outside. I can't remember which one is which

For the 4g it's done a great job protecting the car and not getting scratched - but you must wash and dry the car every time before putting the cover on (and obvs be careful how you wrap the cover up when you remove it, to avoid transferring any dirt onto the inside of it). I need to replace the cover that lives outside, because it's now dead (main reason being because it was attacked by cats but it had also started to de-laminate in a couple of areas naturally)

I'm considering an Advan-tex one next. I do find the website very confusing as to which is the best of the three proper outdoor covers... Advan-tex, Monsoon or Storm force!

Agreed. I emailed the guy right from the off and he was really helpful, had all the info to hand, and even suggested a cheaper option for what I was using it for. 8-)

I've machine washed mine a few times and it comes up well.
You're right about only putting it on a clean car of course, but that's standard for any car cover eh.

Just looking at the site now and which one do you think it’s best for me - monsoon or storm force ?

Dino did a lot of research on covers recently as well.

Beware, if there is even a hint of moisture in the paint, you could write the car off.

Google car covers and micro blisters.

My bonnet did this after being fine for 7 years, 6 months under a cover and it was goosed.

Not to keen on car covers. Your better off exposing the car to the elements and washing it/polishing it every other week or so.

I ended up buying a Stormforce plus in the end.

Very happy with it, but is now used to cover the car in the garage when I dont use it (after its been cleaned)

As a daily car Nitin, Keep the paint waxed and sealed and this will be more than good enough. No need for a car cover
