H22 oil pressure and temp?

Hi chaps I have a set of gauges in my car for:

Oil temp, oil pressure, and water temp

But I'm not 100% sure what oil pressure should be expected as my gauge, I believe is faulty :s and Zeros at 2bar :/ and when running she's on 3bar if not just under.

In guessing that that means she is reading 0.9 bar but not sure.

And does an oil stable temp of 90 and a water temp between 80-90 sound safe?

I presume anything below boiling point is safe? :s

Any ideas dudes?

Min operating temp for the oil is 80C.

My oil runs about 80-85C for most of the time. But I have noticed when the weather is hot it will go higher 85-90C for the same journey. IIRC Motorways also put 70-80mph cruising into the 86-95C range.

My oil pressure is cold idle(<10C)=68-70psi - hot idle(80C)=17-19psi - my idle is set a bit higher than normal to help oil pressure(900rpm)

Your oil pressure does sound odd though. 3 bar when running is only (3x14.7=44psi). It shouldn't be displaying 2bar for zero. Is it electronic or mechanical? If electronic, it might have a sensor reset option so it calibrates to ATM pressure.

The service manual states (page 8-10) that minimum oil pressure should be:

At idle - 10 PSI
At 3K rpm - 50 PSI

Thanks chaps, I have had the car oil reach 110 under heavy acceleration, I'm using Mobil 1 longlife 0w 40, I seem to be losing a lot of oil too I'm thinking perhaps this oils abit thin, so I'm moving to 5w50 Mobil 1 peak life.

P.s sorry for a uber slow reply been using the car alot more lately and remembered my post.

Hey Matt. Yeah 0w is definitely too thin. A lot of us have switched to 5w40, but even then some of us have found that's thin enough for it to start finding its way back out of the block.

And reason for going for 50 as well?

You're using the wrong oil I'd say.

Is it fully synthetic as well? This could be what's causing you problems.

Using the correct oil is essential for maintaining the performance & longevity of your engine.

10w40 or 5w40 semi synthetic is best. But not Mobil 1. It's not so good.

I'd be inclined to go Shell Helix HX7 10w40. Like this:

This is the exact oil I will be using in my H22 when I get it installed in the Gen 3. I have researched oil a lot recently for these engines, and this is the conclusion I came to. Great price for 5L too!

Can be worth going 5w40 to help with cold start in winter (arguably).

And '40' is plenty thick enough to prevent leakage at operating temperature. I wouldn't go higher; the engine won't perform right.

And worth mentioning for lower mileage engines, 10w30 or 5w30 is the recommended. But this will burn more quickly in older motors.

And for a 'track slag', this is the stuff you want!
