Sure I've read about these putting strain on the pillars in a bad way in the past.

I've heard that too.
Not entirely sure how though - they're still only taking the weight of the same door.
All I can think is that when they're lifted up, more of the doors weight is taken on the top mounting point, than the bottom? :?

Personally I'd pass on these. It's already bad enough burbling into a car park and crawling over speed bumps without it being awkward to get out of the car with one of these weirdo doors. Don't even like them on Lambos.

inb4 these would take away the attention from 5G headlights

I imagine the repetitive stress of them coming down and going up with a dampener not quite up to the job would cause a bit of an issue after a while.
