You have to get a decent speed up before it will bump start. Don't panic I am sure the engine is fine.

Have you tried pushing (with more than one person and ideally on a slope) with it in 1st engaged?

To be fair, I was assuming Gayno knew whether he was going fast enough for a bump start when I made that suggestion, but maybe I've over-estimated!

:? I hope so, anyway! :D

And yeah, there's no way you'd be able to bump start it within 10 yards especially with just one person pushing ;-)

This is true - I missed the available distance bit!!! Yep, that must have been barely moving forward at all when the clutch was lifted and it would have just immediately stopped Gayno!

ok, to me this sound like the battery.
refit the battery to the car.
jump start the car, but instead of connecting the jumper earth to the battery of your lude, connect the earth wire from the jumper to the engine block, exhaust manifold, lifting eye, alternator/power steering bracket. this bypasses the battery and creates a direct link to your starter. i know you tried another battery that was on another car but i think my idea will work.

Already done it that way too Sam.

I haven't removed my battery, just tried the other battery using jump lead to bridge onto the pos and neg battery leads in the lude, with them disconnected from my battery.

I've got a mate coming tomorrow to try a pull start using tow rope, see how it goes. Although he has worked in the battery industry and has said it could be a dead cell in the battery, which will allow everything low current to work (so the dash comes on etc) but as soon as you put it under load the battery "dies" in effect.

Will be pulling a battery out of one of our other cars in the morning and fitting that into the lude to test properly.
