Bonnet Gas Struts

Post by Mudgey » Sun Dec 01, 2013 11:05 pm

Hello,

Looking to get rid of my bonnet stay and fit some gas struts, is there a guide here or a kit that's available? :?:

Thanks,
Mudgey

Tein do them but they are so expensive and hard to get hold off. Around £70 for them.

I had some shitty eBay ones for around £35. They didn't do a good job of holding the bonnet in place for a long time. But I think that's because my bonnet was OEM (heavy) and they were probably designed for CF bonnet.

I think I'm going to get some S2000 ones and see if they fit.. Or I can try some other bonnet lifters from other cars..

Edit: I had these on my old car.

I have Sokie ones fitted, never had a problem. They hold the bonnet higher than the stay.

I have the same ones in my 4gen and I can't say they are any bad. I have them for about 2years, didn't have any problems to fit. The only thing is a bit of rust just come out this year.

BTW

:? Didn't Nafe or someone else on here have an issue with the struts breaking the hinges?

This was something I was thinking of doing on mine, I miss them. Had them on my Bora and Omega, my Vectra didn't have them and it was something I wanted on that. Will take a peek at the viability of fitting some. The bonnet on the lude is heavy, but then again so was the one on my old Omega.

Yes, twas I. Still not definitely the struts that caused it. But logic suggests they certainly didn't help.

And as K30DampProofCourse said, mine to have developed rust, so worth taking measures to prevent it developing in the first place I say.
