Door liner/water seal/membrane material

Post by NafemanNathan » Sun Mar 09, 2014 1:44 pm

I very much doubt I'll be able to get my hands on a set of genuine Honda "door hole seals" (Items 5 "72321-SF1-010" & 8 "72361-SF1-010")

So does anyone know where I can get plain sheets of the stuff that I can cut to shape? I've had a look on ebay, but couldn't see anything.

@Donald, here's your chance ;-)

Have a look outside eBay?

Polypropylene or polyethylene is what it's probably made of. If you can find the triangle symbol that looks like a recycling thing it'll have a number and some initials below it so you can find out EXACTLY what it is and then Google is your friend.

You might as well try with Honda first. I bought the last 4th gen one they had in stock world-wide, but they may still have some 3rd gen ones?

I spent ages looking round for the door weather skin material as well and asked several body shops/body panel suppliers, but drew a blank. Dunno why, you used to be able to buy it in rolls easy enough!

I eventually settled on using heavy duty polyethylene rubble sacks :troll: but then someone on here sorted me out with some perfect condition used ones instead :D

Yeah, and still couldn't find anything that wasn't car specific. I'll carry on looking though, cheers for the tip.

I would try with Honda Iain, but I don't really feel like parting with near £60 for them :?

I was just surprised ebay didn't have any universal sheets of the stuff for offer!

I'm hunting for this stuff too!! I removed the membranes on my golf to fit power windows up front and replace a regulator in the back, now I'm completely drawing a blank looking for some plastic sheet to replace it with  I really need to get it sorted as the car is getting very damp now :(

Weird isn't it?

I'm considering getting one of these...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Single-Fitted ... 58aa36deab

It'll be large enough to cover both doors and hopefully flexible and light enough to do the job. Hopefully it'll be fibrous enough to bond well as well.

Clear vinyl or acetate will do the same job. Same material. Use silkaflex to stick it.

Builder's merchant, cut from the roll per metre. Various grades of thickness.
Use the old one as a template for holes and flaps etc.

Attach using duct tape. Sikaflex didn't work for me.

Are you telling me you used Google and couldn't find anything? :? :|

0.1mm. Should be about right for what you need.

http://www.randjbuildershardware.co.uk/ ... wwodXroASA
0.05mm. Bit of an excessive amount but at least you wont run out, can redo it if needed.

As Pushki says, use some sort of tape. Waterproof cloth tape like this: http://www.thermosealgroup.com/product/ ... loth-tapes
Used that at work and it's excellent stuff.
