How much would this private plate fetch?

How long would that plate take to sell, how much does it cost to sell and how quickly is it likely to sell?
The seller gives a quoted value figure for the plate but I'm naturally dubious about it reaching that price, or at least reaching that price without having it advertised for a decade or so!!!

So, anyone got any experience of doing such a thing?

And yes, I am wondering in case the value of the plate makes the car dirt cheap enough that I' completely run out of excuses not to buy it - I don't have enough of these things, after all! (well, I certainly don't have enough with 12 months MOT, anyway ;) )

How much does it cost to sell? Nothing. Sort of! You'll need to put it on retention which costs £125 IIRC, this basically gives you a "log book" style piece of paper which you can use to transfer ownership.

The rest is a case of advertise it and see!

can't be bothered with the transfer hassle etc
Hardly... The paperwork is straight forward and minimal... I wouldn't mind £600 to £800 for 10 minutes work. But it's all dependant on how long it takes to sell, if at all. He's obviously aware of that otherwise why wouldn't you "just sell it"?

And as Adam says, if you don't keep the car it's registered to, you have to pay £125 a year just to hang on to it until it does sell.

It's not a selling point in my opinion I'm afraid ;-)

Not quite.

I've just looked it up and the actual figure is £105. This consists of £25 annual retention fee and an £80 "admin fee"

As the 12 months come up, you'll be sent a reminder like your tax, and you can retain it for another £25, and so on every year, so the annual cost isn't too bad.

Here is the page with all relevant info:

I think if doing a direct switch, you just pay the £80 as you're not putting it on retention. So you were wrong again

 Yes I paid the £80. I meant I had read about retaining a plate at the same time, but remembered it wrong ;-)
