From what I've heard an £80 on the spot fine, I get nothing

what a bunch arse. that rear panel could be rolled out by a paintless dent specialist surely. access in there through the boot is easy. year the lip may be tricky. but ask for opinions. best of luck buddy.

That's disgraceful.
A small fracas in the pub where Jan works led to his decks and laptop having beer poured all over them. Police & court action was swift and a damages cheque for a reasonable sum was in the post to him within a few weeks.
Could it be that the same approach doesn't apply with an insured vehicle? In other words, you're covered already, mate, so we won't bother? If so, what happens when you're only insured TPFT?
newkid wrote:... already told insurance I value it at £1000 and want the option to buy it back mainly cause of the kit leather and exhaust on it.
I hope that works out and you don't have to fight too hard. Our Mazda was written off a few years back for less than 60% of what the insurers stated it was worth, let alone its real market value.

Absolute scumbags!!
How can it be an on-the-spot fine for criminal damage of that level? I know you have insurance, but if the police know who did it then how can they not hold them responsible and make them accountable accordingly? Hope you get it sorted Newkid.

What was all that about newkid? Was iy someone you know, or a complete randomer? If the police have arrested the guy, they should charge them with criminal damage I'd have thought and should prosecute for something that serious, rather than a fixed penalty? Have you pushed them on that?

That rear panel would pull out fine, perfectly repairable. wouldn't even need to get in behind it. If the rest of the car is that good, I would get it repaired rather than buy another tbh.

Really? It's never affected my insurance quotes - aside from the usual "you've had an accident so you're more likely to have another" premium hike, but nothing major - an extra 20 quid a year perhaps which is now no longer relevant..

Looking at the pic of the rear quarter, I tend to agree - the insurance company will want you to claim, so they can then whore all your details out to every PPI claims company and ambulance chaser it can find - they get massive kickbacks for all that malarkey, so expect a lot of cold calling in the coming months..

I'd still be tempted to withdraw the claim and sort it yourself - that stops the car becoming a "class x write off" - which will definitely affect your insurance premium when you go to put it back on the road if you buy it back.

That truly sucks mate, it really does. Some random scroat is free to go around smashing up cars with the only penalty being their parents pay 80 beer tokens for the privilege. It's drokking wrong on every level.
I'm pretty liberal, but when I hear of things like this then I'm all in favour of being allowed in a room with them and a cricket bat with a nail sticking out of it and being given 10 minutes to go to town on them..

But they caught them red handed by the sounds of it, so they'll be going to court right?

When someone broke into my Rallye, damaged the door and stole my radio fascia ( :? :tosser: ), they were caught as the kebab left blood on the scene from smashing the glass (Absolute thicko). They took him to court and he had to pay my expenses for the repair. Surely the same kind of procedure should happen here ???...

@4th gen doug A car being classed as Cat C or D has no effect on its future insurance costs. It only affects future value (i.e. what you would be paid out) in the event of a further claim (due to the resale value of the car being considered as being lower). Cat A or B would be uninsurable, if they checked.

It's only in the last few years that insurers have started using the claims database much more in calculating premiums.
