Running the risk of a hydro locked engine, aem themselves even recommend you run one of these

I had a v1 on my chavic for a while and it performed so much better than the short pipe intakes (whales genitals etc) that I had on before and after. Would definitely recommend the v1.

Never had one of those dry flow covers on it though and all was well. But I was very mindful of the intake when it were raining/puddles.

IMO I wouldn't even look at an intake that takes from inside the engine bay. V1 if I had to choose one. Conversely the idea of a metal tube that heats if is not good either. But it can be wrapped.

My custom intake (generic eBay tubing, heat wrapped with Apexi filter on the end of it) sits about as low to the ground as you can get. It hits off the lowest part of the drivers wheel arch liner. While I don't really drive it on the road, so it doesn't see big puddles, I do drive it in the thrashing wet. I haven't yet had a problem with water. I think the V1 would sit much higher than my filter.

V1 does sit a bit higher than that, yes. It stops just below the hole in the chassis leg. I'll get a pic next time I'm at the car.

So it's sounding like the V1 is the better bet?
But then if it's being heat wrapped, it might just as well be a generic ebay jobber 'cause no-one would know the difference!

I was hoping this thread was a Vergeltungswaffen fight but then I noticed the "AEM" part

AEM V1 if I had to choose, exactly the same reason that Merlin said above.

Uhh did you not cut the conversation short? :sega:

The pipework of the V2 is superior to the V1, although not for the reasons I expected...

I'm assuming this isn't just a gimmick :? :?: Whereas I'd assumed it was an air trap/vacuum.

... But as we know, straight out the box it will be drawing air from inside the engine bay.

... So I suggested a proper cold air feed. This would be something like stk prelude has done. He's completely enclosed the filter and the box ducts air from out side the bumper even...

And there's no reason you can't heat wrap a V2 as welll ;)

Straight out of the box though... V1 no question.

Where did you get that info on the AEMv2 design from?
I had a look on their website and found drokk all
(The installation instructions for the v2 are very detailed though)

I also found there are actually 3 types of AEM intake

So I think that's one long arm and two short arms?

So which is the v1 and which is the v2? And what's the other one?

Anyway, I have (from that order) no.1 and no.3

Oh I found this website called Google. It's pretty good for finding stuff :)

I don't know for sure which is which, but going from that link you posted, the long one is the only one that isn't engineered to increase horsepower.

I was also going to say that the shorter the intake the quicker the throttle response. But then the longer the intake the "torque'y'er".
