Which is left and which is right?

So, back in the day when Honda put full size spare wheels in their cars, a la 3g, how did they decide which sawblade to put as the spare? Left or right hand sawblade?

I hadn't thought about it until one of my 'normal' road wheels started to fail holding air pressure. Brought the spare in to use, and it's the 'wrong' spare' for that side.
