Hi All,

Post by mrahman136 » Sun Jan 24, 2016 11:50 am

Just bought a 1995 M Plate 2.2 Restoration project in a Pearl Blue, the opportunity came up from a colleague who's father had one. He sadly passed away and I said I would take it on as a project.

It suffers from rust all round sunroof edges, the rubber seals look all distorted so daren't open it until I can get a solution.

Small amount of bubbling on rear arches, and a non functioning laserline alarm, and seems to suffer from a bit of old persons clutch. It feels like its probably had bad clutch use over the 10 years in its last ownership.

Other than that, a gem with 89k on the clock.

Strange that it doesn't feel much different to the 93 K Plate 2.3 I had many years ago.

Sheer joy and instant feel good when I got in to take it home and really brought happy memories. Pleased to say that I have in my earlier years be a proud owner of all but the MK1 and Mk5.

I look forward to throwing my restoration into the mix for help and advice, so that we can keep another amazing car on the road.

Welcome to the club :)

Hopefully the sunroof is an easy fix. You could take advantage if the sunroof panel itself is in a bad way and fit a 5th gen glass panel. Just needs some spacers (There will be a write up on here).

Also is it a VTEC or an imported 2.2 non-vtec?

Welcome 8-)

I wouldn't be too scared about opening the sunroof tbh, rusty sunroofs are common on 4g's, but they still open/close fine :D

Options are replacement with a good used one (if you can find one) or a new one from Honda (not cheap) or you can fit the glass sunroof from a 5th gen. A couple of owners on here have done it.

Got the clear sunroof glass off a 5G if your looking for one, or I have the complete sunroof with rails, and motor and wiring look if needed!

Its a UK VTEC car. Will get some pics up next weekend hopefully if the weather stays dry.

I've just checked the sunroof and it does still operate. It does keep clicking at both open and closed extremities which I can't remember was normal?

I've had a play with the laserline alarm. It has a key activation, and seems to lock and unlock the carm from the fob, but the alarm light comes on when the car is unlocked not locked. So if I move after unlocking it goes off, but doesn't care if i move around whilst its locked! Haha. Something must be wired backwards, so I have left it off for now.

Lankysod07 Can the Glass just drop straight in without modification? I have seen the 4g to 5g complete thing where people are grinding bits off to make it fit etc. I wanted the most straight forward replacement to the roof that doesnt need me to open up the inside of the car to be honest.

Yeah the glass itself just drops straight in, correct me if im wrong anyone as on the 5g it was two black plastic bits slide back to show 4 nuts either side, once undone it lights straight out.
