Re: Spare-O-Deck 1989
If I considered an engine swap the only one I'd really consider would be the original B20A that came in the Accords in Japan
I kind of wanted to be able to keep the A20 - I'm not even sure why really, I've just grown really fond of it. I like the idea that it'll be the original engine of nearly 30 years but able to keep up with B16s and similar without saying 'oh yeah I had to swap the engine for something a bit newer to get better power'.
Plus I've heard the block is absolutely perfect for turbo-ing as it's cast iron so super strong, I like the idea of that being a future option way down the line if I keep the car long enough (which no doubt I will - I've only ever sold one car I've owned
).

Haven't updated in a while... Not masses of progress.
Weekend before last was a complete write off - as we were driving to the unit a tractor crop-sprayer unit flipped in front of us and that was pretty much our whole day - it actually landed directly in front of the entrance to our unit so we couldn't even get the car in. If anyone is interested I caught the whole thing on dash cam so here's the screen shots. It was pretty mental the young lad inside was ok though just a bump to the head - Bruce pulled him out by his hoodie. Thought the thing was going to blow up at one point and the bB was still parked behind it, there was no time to move it before we all had to run :/

Anyway... This is basically all the progress made so far. The B16 intake mani has been shaved down to fit flush, yet to drill the new holes for mounting though. I ground the bulk off but got Bruce to do the 'perfecting' side of things because I was worried I'd take too much off

I also started stripping the rear brakes down ready to fit the new recon callipers but it's been on axle stands ever since because I've decided to sell my first car - the Polo - to free up some space and put the money towards the Aerodeck build. So time right now is being spent getting that ready for MOT and sale.

Not your everyday kind of adventure!
What caused it to flip? Did he just clip the high verge on the left? (With the massive wheels, soft suspension and if loaded with fluid, I could see that causing a roll quite easily!)
And do you know what was causing all the smoke? was that the fertilizer leaking out onto hot engine or something? (Fertilizer in some forms is certainly extremely 'combustable'!

Yeah he went into a rutted out bit in the farm entrance which threw him off and up the verge! It was full of pesticides so environmental had to come out and all sorts.wurlycorner wrote:Not your everyday kind of adventure!

The smoke was all the coolant being burnt off as it spilled out of the engine apparently - Bruce took the keys out so the cam stopped recording but the smoke did turn black as it started running on the engine oil and then went bang. It was actually really scary - all I wanted to do was move the bB though in case anything hit it when it went bang haha! Young lad was only about 17, Bruce has seen him around the village in a tractor since though so at least it hasn't put him off!

Bottom end rebuild kit is on it's way, as is the F22 adapter plate for the OBD1 swap, also waiting on a price to ship some mk2 Prelude camber arms as I can't find any in the UK at all
I'm aiming to have this all done by mid July!
Also... This turned up
I realise this is totally marmite (I'll actually admit myself I don't usually like them AT ALL) but it just seemed to fit with the look of the car. It's four pieces, bumper, bonnet and one cover for each headlight, deadstock from US circa late 90s.

Sorry Becca, normally I'd bite my tongue if I don't like something, but that front end looks so much better without the gimp mask. I get what you're doing with this car, but all the cutouts (especially the ones that aren't even required) look tacky and the edge nearest the bonnet buldge shouldn't be curved
It just takes something away from the appeal of and Aerodeck, not adds something for me... And I love these cars!
Otherwise love what you're doing!
