Gen 5 - manual - super low miles - stock

Post by SOLUDE » Fri Feb 03, 2017 1:41 pm

Sorry also posted this in for sale then spotted the Wanted section!

Hi all, ive been lurking and learning for a while now but not posted yet. Im looking for a really low miles, no rust, manual Gen 5. I would consider an import but prefer UK origin... Black or Red top fine (A5 or A8)
Im not into massive mods or body kits etc except definitely Motegi kit is high on wish list or maybe Mugen bits but def not F&F style,
I have a good budget i.e. 2 - 3 x what a typical stock Gen 5 goes for, condition is key for me and i would go for a holy grail stock car if one came up at the right price.. I would have bought either of those 'expensive' gen 5s recently sold in BIrmingham area.
Im NOT a dealer and this is to be my personal fun weekend car after moving over from the dark side (944, Boxster, Z4 Coupe etc)
Love the forum and club by the way, great info and knowledge (and :D ) on here and not stuffy like some of the other forums i belong to.
All i ask is drop me a line if you have one or more likely if you see one on your travels. Thanks in advance.

What you want is something like this...

Pics are on page 2.

Although I'm not 100% sure the guy definately wants to sell. For all we know he was just curious

Guys, that is exactly the type of car I have been looking for... Spec, colour age, mileage. I've dropped a PM and we'll see if he wants to sell or just curious re value. If he wants to and it's as good as it looks I would be very interested. Thanks for the heads up, can't believe I missed that..

Unfortunately this particular car is not for sale and Curt has indicated he was just curious re values.. shame for me but can't blame him, it is what I would consider a grail prelude. Any more leads let me know please guys... Thanks in advance.

Just spotted this fella on eBay...

It's an auto, but if it's as good as it looks, at that price it'd be worth doing a manual conversion.

Yes, thanks for the heads up. I saw that, looks V good and spot on for me bar auto?! Any ideas how much a manual conversion might cost and who would be best to do it... I'm no mechanic (handle basic stuff but no time or skills for this)?
Also... Where would I even start to look for a manual gearbox and bits in similar low miles condition to rest of car?
Yes... I'm clueless!

Ok, I've searched the old posts and can find someone had been quoted 1k for the conversion on a 4G... As a guide it gives me an idea but I understand a 5G may be more effort.. still don't know if parts available new or in UK or it's a source from abroad.. I'd also like to know if a conversion would be as solid reliability wise as an OEM manual. Who would you guys trust to do the work if not yourself. Any advice?

There's a few ways of doing it, most people I've seen do it either collect the bits they need or they just purchase a donor car to get it all at once (if you search around there's a post somewhere of a list of everything you need I think).
I can't speak from experience but on the reliability side but I can't see any reason that it would be an issue, after all everything there was designed to work with what's already on the car!
Because it all bolts straight on and the service manual is so good there's no reason you can't do it yourself if you're handy and you can always ask here for help ;) If not there's a few garages people mainly use, it depends where you're based really!

Best of luck on the hunt!
