i agree, it does look like it that now you mention it - ive not touched it since buying it myself, except taking around 4 hours to clean it properly up.

maybe had a replacement header end sometime in its life? it just looked very shiney to me

Someone's had them rewelded, due to blown welds would be my guess.
Rather that than a leaking manifold.
Considering how old it probably is its not that surprising for a used part.

@a1ex cheers for the heads up mate. I'm looking for one that has already been butchered to fit a type S as I just wont do it to one myself. otherwise its going to be a solid fab sometime.

The mugen header isnt welded at that join normally, it's like a push fit jobbie. Mine was leaking in the same spot last year and had the same welds added
