Dashcam catches rogue mechanic...
I suspect this will not be the last occasion something like this happens;
Halfords mechanic caught speeding in car in for MOT - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-32283758
The whole data protection thing with dash cams does bother me though. How would I control the use of any footage of me that these collect? Google have to blur faces on street view etc. for that very reason.

Hang on, we're missing the bigger issue here. Someone actually trusted Halfords with their car?!

Lets face it - it looked like it the roads were clear, with no traffic in the way, and it could be that this particular Halfords is 3 miles and 20 minutes away from the nearest 50 limit or NSL road, and it's the difference between a diagnosis taking 2 minutes, or 40 minutes - especially if the mechanic in question knew what it was as soon as he heard the beeping?
Knowing someone who worked at a Halfords Autocentre, and knowing why they've now moved to an independent - the time pressures, quick turnarounds and sell-sell-sell attitude that they are put under, I can fully imagine that the management would typically turn a blind eye to this kind of thing, if not encourage it on a regular basis.
I'm not disagreeing that 57 in a 30 isn't child killer territory, and if something were to have gone wrong (which it didn't), but without knowing all the facts - there may have been a reasonable reason why - it might even have been the owner's own comments that led to it happening?

Re: Dashcam catches rogue mechanic...
I never trusted garages with my car.. but how this guy drives doesn't really bother me. my problem is, did he warm up the engine befor flooring it. and how is the isnurance going to deal with an accident if it happens.
Guy I know worked at a VIP parking service at the airport, he told me stories about drifting BMWs and doing 100MPH+ in 911s when collecting cars , even he admitting reving the jobby out of them when cold..

)
Driving above the speed limit is a crime.. but there are different ways of doing it.
I always respect other peoples property even rental cars , but don't expect others to do the same.
